Why Stump Grinding Is a Popular Effective Choice For Many

Space in a garden is always at a premium and whether newly felled or an old relic, tree stumps can be a blot on the landscape. The RHS notes two main problems with stumps as “problems with suckering where new shoots arise from the trunk and roots.” So it advises; “Completely dead stumps won’t form suckers, but they can play host to root diseases such as honey fungus, so aren’t worth leaving in and taking the risk.”

Removing the stump by grinding not only opens the way for planting, but nutritious soil that’s previously been available only to the tree. Leaves that have fallen and rotted down in that location are not removed in grinding but rather mixed in to the wood chip and make for happy plants.
